Mixed babies were born all of the time during slavery and that didn’t mean they were murdered. In fact, many wives knew their husband's had relations with women in slavery and the mother was able to raise the child. It was a disgusting common practice for slave owners to rape or have even a consensual sexual relationship with a black woman. This didn’t happen during that time and I realize it was very difficult in the south but there was no reason to kill her child as they already knew she had run off with him. And, if it were that serious they would have had her murdered. Her mother should have gone to prison for that if that’s what happened. If not I’m sure she’s probably in hell because that baby could have been hidden in the black community and lived. I also want to point out that so many people think black slavery was just an American thing but absolutely not! I’m Mexican and Kootenai Native American and have a BA in sociology. Mexico down to the Dominican Republic to Spain and many other countries participated in the trans Atlantic slave trade yet America takes all of the blame for it. That’s ridiculous! I’m a person of color and all slavery is wrong, but, America should not always be the sole focus as many countries enslaved and not just Africans. What a sad story and not a movie I can watch twice.

I was born in 66 and my grandmother was black my mom biracial, my dad was white. I look more white than black, we moved to California when I was born. When I was little when I would visit my grandma in Louisiana people just assumed she was my nanny and my grandmother never corrected them because she feared what would happen so I understand how Frankie's mom feared that baby.

If Frankie’s mother killed her baby why wasn’t she ever charged? There’s no statute of limitations on murder. I don’t believe she killed that baby. I think that’s what she wanted Frankie to believe so she wouldn’t go searching for her child. She gave that baby to a couple. I will almost bet the baby looked more caucasian than black & that’s why she gave her away. There’s no way she killed that baby & stayed out of the court system when the reason for Frankie’s trauma came out in the 70’s.
The first time I saw the movie I do t know why I thought that maybe the biracial young lady who worked at the strip club w/ Frankie may have been her daughter & neither of them knew it. Ijs
