Chuck Bracken has a brother, Ken Bracken, who writes letters from a liberal viewpoint, so we run them both.

Article Homeless in Duluth

The majority of this problem is from the mayor and city council in my opinion that has made the cost of taking a say 3 bedroom home into a rental cost to the new landlord 3to 5k and that’s just the start of it where do they think that money comes from (oh that’s right they don’t think) so in my opinion the cost is subject to the will of the city council and building and safety department

Jaze and C-silence were not allowed to play and yet you still promoted their names on the bill. Your insurance company wont insure hip hop concerts. Hip hop is one of the few things that bring communities together. These guys have worked hard thanklessly for years, and you just tossed them aside like trash. You didn't even apologize. Shame on you guys. Amateurs. I've seen better high-school newspapers. Get it together.

Article Letters July 14, 2022

It is 11:59 p.m. The younger you are, the more worried you need to be. This is not the time to be patient.
Recently Senator Manchin again found reasons to single-handedly kill a key climate action bill. Over 200 congressional staffers, most of whom helped craft the bill, and mostly young, sent a letter to senate and house leadership urging that a climate change bill must be passed, now.
I have heard candidates for our Minnesota legislature and federal offices comment that addressing climate change will take time. That is not the necessary answer. The time to talk about and seek perfection is over. We need to take immediate and meaningful action, now!
I’m afraid my generation is failing you, the youth, the future of our country and world, and my grandchildren. You can no longer tolerate my generation’s dithering.
You must take action, yourselves! Hold all candidates for climate change accountable. Demand that they acknowledge climate change as the number one, single most important issue, whether at state or federal level, facing our future. At political events ask what their sense of urgency is. If the answer is “It will take time”, respond with, “Wrong answer! It must be addressed, and action taken, now! Will you commit to that?”.

Article The classic 1965 Minnesota Twins

Marc,
I always read your great articles but this one on the 65 Twins and their new HOF inductees got me choked up. Being three years older than you are, I have been a Twins fan since '61" when I was ten. You are correct in that we lived in a different world then, I walked home from school for lunch growing up in Duluth. But your memories of the food and good times at the Met totally brought me back to that special place in time. Kudos to your sixth grade teacher to have the foresight to adapt to that day's curriculum. I remember smuggling a Philco transister pocket radio with mono earpiece into a ninth grade class to listen to the pitcher's duel that took place that day. Great read Marc, thanks for recreating the memories. Live long and prosper! Sincerely,
Mike Mattson

Mike, thank you for reading and for your kind words. Reliving that WS gave me pause to remember how lucky I was as a kid to live near the stadium and to be able to go to Twins and Vikings games there as often as I wanted. It was an absolute dream. Thanks again for reading... Marc

Native American Prayer

I give you this one thought to keep
I am with you still I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not think of me as gone
I am with you still in each new dawn

Article Nitpicking Pete Stauber’s email

Thank you Harry for stating the facts with truth in your "Nitpicking Pete Stauber's Email" article. Trying to set the record straight on Stauber's tainted communication method is no small task. I am so hoping he is defeated in the next election. His adherence to the evolved GOP into the GQP talking points is beyond my comprehension. Always love reading your thoughtful comments, and you had my vote in the primary.

Article School lunches and rookie dinners

What a brilliant analysis and commentary. If only Americans were aware of how far down the list their country has descended in significant indicators of well-being. USA capitalism, is not a moral economic system.

A belated "thank you" for that. He did take things in stride, something I don't think I really appreciated until now.
