LaForge also makes a big deal out of the fact that some of the DUF6 that was converted to uranium metal that became DU penetrators was from uranium that was recycled from reactors. DOE has long made this information available and the small amount of Plutonium is detectable, but not really measurable. It did not get much space in the 300 page reports that UNEP made of each of the three field expeditions to the Balkans. Notably, LaForge does not give you a reference to any of them. This is to the last of the reports, that for Bosnia-Herzegovina. The field research was done seven years after the A10 strafing runs with 30mm DU penetrators. See the completely intact penetrator on page 32; it is still within the aluminum shroud that separates only after the penetrator has hit a hard target like a tank or sometimes a road or tarmac surface.
