Yeah, another sarcastic remark, that's what I thought. That will get you everywhere. None of you (who I see are the only people who ever remark on these articles, which is why I don't feel the need to provide a name, and I doubt that's your real name, Juan) ever provide any useful information or ideas on how to fix things. We do have all new people in place since the original plans were made, and they are trying their best. Why don't you run for a position if you have so many good ideas?

I have often proposed solutions. For example, selling Central High School would have been a great way to raise $14 million. But as soon as the school district realized they were on the brink of actually fulfilling a Red Plan promise for once, they got out of there as fast as they could, so there Central still sits, years later, sucking up resources by the day. Of course I complain. The school district is making bad choices and breaking promises. I propose that they start making good choices and keeping their promises. That would be radical, I know, but tough times call for radical solutions.

Basically, the situation is this: Critics of the school district have had their concerns ignored for ten years, and have even been demonized as not caring about children. Now that their concerns have been proven absolutely right, the school district says critics have to forget about past mistakes and focus on cleaning up the mess. Well, a big part of cleaning up the mess is changing the basic conditions that led to the mess in the first place. Sadly, nobody wants to do that. So we’re just heading happily down the same road as before, with no changes whatsoever. And somehow it’s STILL the critics’ fault, even though they were right all along.

It’s crazy living in a place where only mistaken viewpoints mean anything, and correct viewpoints are ignored.

Great article Phil. Yes you are right on, in the big picture unions help everyone in the exact ways you stated, the unions set a standard, if it wasn't for the union you wouldn't have received the $85 you had coming. Many working non-union jobs are receiving the earnings and benefits they have because of unions, unions try and keep the playing field level and fair. Like you say "why is negotiating with your employees such a problem".
