Because you are hurt and upset about your cat, you can lash back at AA?

Did you ever consider that countless employees that scarfice everyday to take of the cat you left behind? The hundreds of volunteers that donate their time to taking care of abandoned animals just like you did to your cat.

You want to make a change then put your money where your mouth is. Sign up to be a volunteer, come to the community events, visit your local county offices to make a change. Fight for the animals just like the staff and volunteers do 365 days.

But let me guess you can't do that. So instead hide behind your computer screen.

You are using the law to hide from the fact of what you did is just plain dirty and wrong. Your lucky it wasn't my cat or i would have drove my truck through the side of your building in the middle of the night and let all the animals free of your indentured servitude. And microchipping may only be $25 but then how come i have a recurring fee to keep my information attached to that chip? (and i got my cat from you) lets be real here, you are the real pieces of shit.

I have read your article and subsequent comments, and after having taken a few days to ‘calm myself down’ feel compelled to respond. First off, please know that I understand the pain that you are feeling having lost your sweet, gentle furry companion. Secondly, I will not rehash the ‘infractions’ that you have ‘claimed’ responsibility for. Although I feel like those claims were just words, no need to go over them again.

I realized that the title of your post probably originated as “How to recklessly watch my cat walk away with people I do not know, not do anything while cleaning my car, lose my cat, and then feel that the laws and rules put in place by the city don’t apply to me and therefore I should get my cat back after 12 days of doing nothing.” My guess is that the title field on your post doesn’t allow for that many characters, or you fell victim to autocorrect, and ended up with the blatantly misleading title of having your cat stolen.

I understand that you watched your cat walk away on May 8th. I didn’t see in the original posting anything that indicated that you watched those two girls ‘abduct’ your cat, or ‘grab’ your cat….I was thinking that maybe you inadvertently left that point out until you addressed it in the comments section, and then I thought to myself, “wow, that really escalated”. I would still question as to why the girls would ‘abduct’ your cat, just to take it to Animal Control. I guess I am naive (saving you from having to insult me by saying that), and would think if their intention was to ‘steal’ your cat, they would keep her in their house, and not let her out…not take her to the local police facility’s animal control.

Animal Control (which I believe is an entity of the Duluth Police (for your commenter “Nicole”), then followed their policy and procedure and had her on a 5 day hold, because anyone, who truly loves their pet and cares about it’s well being, in the first five days would surely contact them to find out if they had their beloved pet in their custody. When the owner didn’t come forward, they then continued to follow their process and procedure and took her to Animal Allies, where numerous people took care of her, gave her any medical attention it needed (which probably included that micro-chipping that you neglected to provide), fed her, gave her a safe space and worked to find her a good, loving home. Then, someone came in, fell in love with her, and chose to adopt her.

12 days later (TWELVE days later), you found Polly when your family was out searching for a new kitty (because, as you admit, you pretty much had written Polly off). Then you proceed to fly off the handle because no one will break their rules to accommodate your lack of action. You didn’t care enough for 12 days to do anything to try and recover Polly. Yet, when she is found, all of a sudden you care. Yeah, I would be a little leery myself.

Now to address some of your responses…

Someone tried to metaphorically state your issue with the diamond necklace reference, which you called (and prefaced with ‘no offense’) ‘Stupid’. By the way, did you know that when you preface a statement with “no offense” that is just a lie…you have every intention of offending someone, but you feel by prefacing with that, you’re released from the responsibility of potentially offending someone (I seem to sense a pattern here). Perhaps I will try a different metaphor that I am sure you will find (no offense) stupid;

I’m driving down London Road in my Ferrari. The speedometer on my Ferrari goes up to 160. The speed limit sign on London Road says 30 mph. Everyone else is speeding, so heck, I decide to speed too (because everyone else does it). My Ferrari has the instinct of driving quickly, so ‘leashing’ it back to 30 mph is taking away it’s value as a Ferrari. I get stopped by the Duluth Police officer because I am doing what everyone else does, and allowing my car to experience it’s natural instinct. My guess is that if I looked at the officer and said ‘everyone else does it, and it’s not the natural instinct of the car to only go 30 mph, he wouldn’t say ‘well, you’re right, the rules shouldn’t apply to you, so feel free to continue to be reckless and break the laws of this city and state. My guess is that they would follow their rules, policies and procedures and I would be punished for acting recklessly and not following the laws. Doesn’t matter that my car has the instinct to drive faster…doesn’t matter that ‘no one else follows the law’, I was caught, I was punished, and I learned my lesson. You, no doubt will tell me that this is a stupid analogy, that Ferrari’s don’t exist in Duluth, blah blah blah…stop being obtuse and take it for what it is.

You had the audacity to call the wonderful folks from AA who cared for your cat enough to find it a loving home, “a-holes”. You absolutely owe them an apology to start, but let me end by saying this:

No worries, no offense taken for calling my analogy stupid. But since you did, allow me to explain it further.
You are not accustomed to letting random people play with your precious diamond necklace, or letting it go unaccounted for overnight, because it is valuable and precious to you. My cats are as valuable and precious to me as a diamond necklace, as they should be to their owners.
Laws about leashing cats are not made to stifle your enjoyment at observing their primal behavior. Uncontained cats kill local wildlife, spread disease, destroy property, get lost, get hit by cars etc... Outdoor cats have a life expectancy of 2 to 5 years, while indoor cats have a life expectancy of 15 or more years. You should be VERY concerned when your cat is unaccounted for overnight. Many cat adoption centers now have prospective owners pledge to keep their cats indoors for these reasons.
I understand that people think differently. But as a pet owner, how is your first thought not to call the pound? It's not an exotic, little-known office in a broom closet in the DMV basement where you can only access by whispering the magic words to the government employee that is wearing the enchanted pocket protector. It's basic pet-owner knowledge. Most non-pet-owners even know about its existence.
And as for "the girls", you really need to let that go. You have made up such an elaborate story in your mind demonizing these young women. And you have zero proof beyond your imagined scenario that they did anything other than snap a few selfies with a cute cat. You don't know they were the ones that took your cat. You don't know that they are the adopters.
To repeat: The system was not put in place for owner's feelings. It was put in place to ensure the welfare of animals. Ignorance of the leashing law, or the 5 day hold law, or any of the procedures and laws you don't like, do not make you innocent. You failed to educate yourself as a pet owner, which is your negligence and you lost your pet. It's very, very sad. But them's the breaks.

Minneapolis is just as bad. The animal control people came and took two cats straight out of my yard. They were just lounging in the sun. Luckily for me I found them at the impound right away. But it still cost me $300 to get them back. If someone else, besides animal control, takes your pets it's called "theft."

The sense of entitlement coming from this is overwhelming. Maybe you don't understand that actions have consequences, so here's a quick lesson.

You ABANDONED your cat. You allowed it to roam ILLEGALLY without a leash. You didn't think to check anywhere or do anything about your cat being missing for FIVE DAYS. That alone speaks for how much you actually cared about this animal.

You have no legal recourse with which to go about returning the cat to your incredible apathy, so instead you decide to prey upon the emotions of others in a sob story in a local newspaper. I am personally overjoyed to hear that this cat will be at least be with a family that actually aknowledges its presence now.

Shame on you for writing this biased trash slamming the workers at Animal Allies for YOUR ignorance. Are you aware that for many them, it's their life's passion to care for animals? Much more than could be said of you. It also then fell on them to pay for the care of the animal that you ABANDONED. Let me say that I am in no way affiliated with Animal Allies, but you're lucky that I wasn't there when you decided to throw your little temper tantrum, cause you would've seen how someone with a backbone can tell you off.

Next time you find yourself in a similar situation, consider not being a garbage human being throwing a pity party and forcing the entire city to attend and instead try being an adult and take responsibility for YOUR actions.

I posted your article on the animal allies Facebook page and shared it because this made my blood boil. People can point out whatever mistakes you made but there's no ignoring the TRUTH, polly is your cat and if the organization truly cared about animals they would have made the simple fix and returned her.

To AA and it's defenders - you are hiding behind your rules and policies to get away with this. You have taken a happy, well- cared for pet away from it's loving family and refuse to return it. You know you should. But I guess it's more important to follow the letter of the law than to do the right thing.

None of my friends nor I would want to adopted a cat that had a home like Polly. How sad she lost her home because of some silly girls. Who probably took her home and their parents dumped her at the shelter. They are still out their waiting to steal your cat. I would not adopt a cat from Duluth's animal allies.

None of my animals have ever been chipped nor would I have them chipped. That is not the only way to show ownership. You never know, chips may cause cancer.

It's not fair to the new people, the owners or Polly. The silly, stupid girls stole the cat. That is plain and simple! Animal Allies should return the cat. What happens if Polly doesn't like her new place? What will be one with Polly then? Have you thought of that?

And some people behave like animals. Cats and dogs are a lot better than a lot of people I know!!!!!

My friend brought an injured cat to AA and she told the tech that it was injured. The tech didn't use protective gloves and the cat bit her. That cat suffered for 10 days without meds because of the stupidity of one of the staff. They killed the cat in the end and my friend will never again go to AA.
