I have just found another "angry white folk" and he must also be disappointed with this historical and great victory by our next President of the United States. Thank you for supporting Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence in their 2020 campaign I too, will display my yard support sign until the next election.
Landslide victory? Certainly you jest! Trump won the electoral college, which is how the US elects presidents, and that is fine. He won it by 74 votes. He did lose the popular vote by 2.6 million votes, so it is hardly a landslide; hardly a mandate. I hope that President elect Trump does a good job, as all of us citizens need him to be successful. I fear that with the people that are surrounding him that we will have a difficult time being successful. I hope they prove me wrong. I am disturbed by the many groups that seem to be empowered by this election. The "angry white male" vote is disturbing as this seems to have given the OK to a white racist faction to return to threatening those that are different than them, or taking away the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. (I indeed am a white male, but I don't think that I am superior to others because of that.) I believe that there has been a warming of the earth; my mind is open to how much effect humans have had on that. I am worried about people who latched on to the platform of changing government (a good thing) but seemed to think that either the other things Trump was saying were really lies (isn't that what you didn't like about current politicians?), or weren't as important as change. When we decide that our fellow citizens aren't important, then we have a big problem with our country. The first time we will be able to voice our opinion in the voting booth will be in 2 years. We'll see what happens then..

The observations regarding Mr. Gronseth's attempts to leave the district can't be discounted. I have often wondered why more folks aren't talking about this. He clearly prefers the laborious task of job hunting/interviewing then coming up with real solutions on how to make our public schools better. Duluth is the 20th largest school district in the state, but is ranked #101 (out of 320)... How could anyone, specifically the district's top administrator be happy with that? Perhaps he believes his work is done here?
I think, in your attempt to be fair and Minnesota nice, you have over rated Mr Gronseth. The district was in disarray and decline when he arrived, and it has only gotten worse. Much worse. This is a district that is in desperate need of leadership. Mr Gronseth hasn't provided it.
Also, "They see themselves as a booster club for the people who work in the buildings of ISD 709; this group of fortunate citizens is their true constituency." Well put Loren. It is the exact truth, and I hope the rest of Duluth comes to the same conclusion soon. Before we lose so many students that closing Denfeld is the only reasonable outcome.
I write social satire in the same style, so that means I think your story is excellent. All kidding aside (which isn't a goid idea when the real world news needs levity) I enjoyed reading this, immensely. Thanks for the chuckles.
Hey John I hope that you know that those 985,000 deaths included the death of insects and rats the writer who wrote that in the new york academy of science wrote it as a joke, there is really less than 40 directly correlated deaths due to cheronobyl if your going to write an article make sure you get your facts straight
So this is what I'm all about each Christmas. This year, under Happy Birthday to the Prince of Peace is all the violence games, toys, cars, army this and air force that which pervades and perverts our consciousness and conscience. Walk into a store and there will be Star Wars toys. Just a start, on the first row as you enter.
A better toy would be Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. He's the one who came up with my definition of the Apocalypse and the rapture... that everybody catches the bus, whether we catch that bus en masse or singly, we all catch the bus. You just have to get on the right one. That people stress way too much about getting called up in a general rapture strikes me as cowardly. People don't want to go through a tribulation. Nobody does. Most ways to die with the natural ways are really unpleasant. But people stress it as the be all and end all of Christ.
The Bible doesn't specifically predict a rapture. But the requirements for rapture would be the same for leaving one by one like it's always been, and facing a judgment. If you ain't ready to go out the old fashioned way what difference, eternally, would it make if you miss the rapture? I did my version before I did his.
Anyhow, the horrors of war wrought a great change in him. He became an atheist because no God would permit those events. So the promotions go. And I believe it. He vowed to prove the bible as a fake, and he would destroy it one page at a time. Instead it changed him, and he became what he had most despised after the War. He became the arguably greatest confessor and apologist for Christianity in the 20th century. It could have broken him, it did many others.
That's what keeps me going, just thinking about for instance gas. I've seen bugs sprayed, and the thought of being or seeing people dying that way, exterminated with the same callous disregard you would expect for cockroaches. Machine Guns. Losing your soul to the training it takes to make you obey, unconditionally.
Losing your soul to training others to lose theirs.
In all that, I have a spiritual door to walk away from those horrors. I have the knowledge that CS Lewis broke through. Something to recognize that as horrific as it is, it doesn't have to break you. Lets the light in.
In the Air Force, which mercifully didn't involve me harming anybody. I was taught that every person in the Military is considered a combatant. Doctors, nurses, priests, pastors, rabbis... all are covered in the Geneva and Hague conventions. If you're captured you are in the letter and spirit of those laws just as much a killer as the person with the rifle or the bomb sight. There's not a classification of non-combatant. I learned that medical personnel, (my MOS) psychiatrists and priests had the responsible to repair or prepare the ones who held the rifles, conditioned and in physical ability to fulfill their mission. Which is to kill. Combat Support, it's called. A "monkey mechanic" who kept the minds and bodies of the combatants repaired the same way the Armorer repaired rifles or the mechanics who repair the planes and truck and tanks. Dehumanized comes to mind. The chaplains, because people have that danged ol' bible and noticed that many times therein God says don't kill people... were paid to lie to the troops and tell them that God not only forgives the killing, He commands it.
And I knew chaplains. And I can't for the life of me go there, to try to understand selling one's own soul to convince others to do the same. I can't look through his eyes, and wouldn't if it were possible.
The only way one could kill and not condemn the person killed to the Second Death, is if the other is purified or innocent. That means babies and saints. The ones who have nothing to confess or be further purified. To kill a person in the midst of his sin removes any chance of salvation. How would I have fared in such a place, or my brothers, by bloodline of our father or the Blood of Our Father? If I want salvation, how can I deny it to others, violently?
And if in a position of priesthood, one who is ordained specifically with the job, full time, of leading to salvation. I tend to write long.
But, yeah. The Air Force taught me there is no humanitarian position in their organization. I got out in the middle of Tech School, they found out that my Autism had been diagnosed by the Air Force when I was six. Something about my dad's military record getting burned up in a fire at the archives. Along with Richard Burton's and George Bush. BRown, BUrton... yeah, they were stored in the same room. So I didn't have to ply the trade of fixing humans to kill other humans. I'm always grateful for that.
Do you happen to know how much the new Spirit Mountain Directors Salary is? I heard her husband is employed there as well. Just wondering how much Duluth is paying the two when there great plans are to cut jobs and salaries and increase costs dramatically to use the recreation area again mostly affecting locals.
We were anxious to go to Paks after seeing the restaurant on Triple D ~ and so disappointed when we found out it closed. As to the new adventure, no thank you.
What a joke!! I received a $45 speeding ticket and ended up paying $125. The additional $80 was for library fees. When I asked what the library fees were, I was told it was for all the paperwork involved to process the ticket.
