Please shut up about Pearl Jam

Mon. Jun. 11th, 2012

When I was just a wee lad, 16 years old, I worked my first job at a toy store. Lots of us teenagers worked there, because they were busy over the holidays and would hire any schmuck who didn’t show up to the interview nude or drunk. The store also had a lot of employees in their early 30s who worked there for that same reason. Expectations were low, and the employees were high. High on life. And by “life,” I mean marijuana.

“By the shores of Gitche Gumee, By the shining Big-Sea-Water, Stood the wigwam of Nokomis, Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis. Dark behind it rose the forest, Rose the black and gloomy pine- trees,Rose the firs with cones upon them...” ~H.W. Longfellow

Culture Vulture With An Anonymous Protester Outside Of The Building For Women

Mon. Jun. 11th, 2012

It’s pretty fair to say that the right for a women to abort an unborn child is one of the more contested and dividing issues of our time. In 1973 during the landmark case of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th amendment granted women the right to a legal and safe termination of a pregnancy.

My Happiness

Mon. Jun. 11th, 2012  |  Harry Drabik

I stood before the microwave the other day when a bolt hit, stopping me dead as a frozen fish stick, which as you know is the very sign and signal of the grimmest reaper on the planet. From fish stick death there is no return. Frozen fish is so far from life it reaches extraterrestrial alien status. With fish sticks I have no quarrel, other than avoiding them and feeling sorry for them in their little cardboard coffins in the freezer section. The decent thing would be a deep hole and a tasteful service; taste being otherwise denied said frozen fish except for salt making them salty.

East Ridge 13-year-old Wins Big in 7A Track

Mon. Jun. 11th, 2012  |  John Gilbert

Personal bests and meet record times filled the air at Malosky Stadium last weekend, but in the action-filled afternoon of the Section 7A high school track meet, the most scintillating finish came in the girls 3,200-meter run. That’s two miles -- eight times around the 400-meter track -- which is a long race. And this one boiled down to a two-girl battle, as they ran off away from the field, and as they started the final lap, there was no way the little girl could possibly move up from her distant third.

Stanley Cup Action From Coast To Coast! Will We Witness Horse Racing History Saturday? Tune It In!

Mon. Jun. 11th, 2012  |  Marc Elliott

ISABELLA… Two games are complete in the Stanley Cup finals, and the LA Kings are in the Cup driver’s seat with a 2-0 series lead over the NJ Devils and a chance to close it out at home with two games coming up on the left coast. The Kings won both games courtesy of 2-1 OT scores. They scored first in each game, then the Devs scrapped back to tie only to lose in OT both times. Is there anything the Devs can do differently to obtain a different result in games three and four?

Triple “Crowner” Turns Out To Be Triple Downer, Stanley Cup Rages Forth

Thu. Jun. 14th, 2012  |  Marc Elliott

CLOVER VALLEY… I’ve said all along that winning the Triple Crown is a huge challenge and that whoever wins it will be considered immortal in the annals of equine history. The events of last week proved this to be true, but in the aftermath of I’ll Have Another’s withdrawal from the Belmont Stakes, there might be more questions than answers. In addition, he was retired from competition, leaving fans and supporters shocked and saddened at his sudden departure from the chance of a lifetime and from the sport itself. This has also hit NBC hard and the industry, too, since they both would have benefited from IHA’s appearance and try for the Crown.
