i don't know a single person who needs or wants 5G, do you? but now, the TV has commercials showing how wonderful 5G is because someone can download a 4hr movie in 10 sec. who cares? if anyone is going to spend 4hrs watching a movie, is waiting 2 min for it to download really that big of a deal? and in the first place, who downloads the entire movie before watching it? 99% of people are going to stream it, which means they're downloading a 4hr movie in 4hrs! DSL can handle that with headroom to spare. i stream four live football games simultaneously in HD using DSL! so explain to me again exactly WHO wants or needs 5G? JUST SAY NO to deadly intrusive tech shoved down your throat. let your representatives know, in no uncertain terms... we will not tolerate this.

Curious as to your characterization of Mr. Funk as "very successful" in Albert Lea - on what criteria did you base that opinion? Percentage of students meeting standards in all area for that district have been at least 10 percentage point lower than students in the Duluth district, and not trending upwards. In addition the graduation rate in Albert Lea is lower, not only than Duluth's but also of similar-sized districts and communities such as Austin and Owatonna.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer, but I tried to cover a lot in my article and had space restrictions. My primary criteria was financial: the fiscal health of the district, with a fund balance, and restraint applied to the tax burden for Albert Lea residents. I was also referring to the fact that Mr. Funk had experienced a longer tenure than Superintendents generally do. To me, that indicates Albert Lea citizens and employees of the Albert Lea school district believe he's doing a good job.

As a taxpayer - although not in the Duluth district - I appreciate the financial aspect. However, the primary focus of any school or district should be the education of student, right? What's the point of keeping the doors open and paying the light bill if that isn't happening? Although I have no personal knowledge of Mr. Funk's work, I've worked with schools and districts in 13 states over 30 years. An administrator with lengthy tenure in one place can be due to many reasons - including the possibility that an administrator simply hasn't shown a broad range of success in ALL areas of administration and isn't attractive as a potential hire in other places.

I don't disagree with the points you are making, though I will also ask: What were all the stats when Mr. Funk took over? It is difficult for me to believe he would have had his contract renewed if he'd lost ground to the extent you are suggesting.
I based my article on the 12 hours of candidate interviews. If these pertinent facts were not brought up during the interviews, and they weren't, you should probably question the school board as to why not. I will also point out that all 7 board members voted for Mr. FunK as their #1 choice after the first round. He was a good candidate.

I checked out the site you linked above and tbh it looks more like they're trying to hype up the dangers of EMFs to sell their books and EMF meters than a site trying to present the facts.

Good point, and I don't have that history handy. As I'm not a resident of Duluth, my input wouldn't be appropriate to the board. I do keep an eye on school districts as part of my job, am aware of some struggles in the Duluth district, and hope for the best. And, I appreciate your coverage of board/administration activity.

Interesting points. Demographically Albert Lea is much more diverse than Duluth, and has a much higher free and reduced population than Owatonna and Duluth. Mr. Bass, if you study education, you know their is a direct correlation to family income and student achievement. Comparing districts in such a manner is not consistent with the research on achievement.

In education it is hard to compare apples to apples, so something else to look at is community support Has the community supported district referendums? Only one of the finalists has been a superintendent, but that would be a strong indicator of an individuals leadership, and the community perception of them. I believe Funk has been successful every time.

I would refer both of of you to the leadership profile that was developed through community feedback in Duluth. Where do each of the candidates stack up on that? None of them check every block, but who best fit the needs of the profile? The board represents the community, so hopefully they used that as their guide.

Your points are well taken. Duluth has been struggling for so long with fiscal issues, I tend to focus on that.

I have been doing that since my adopted mom, who rode a horse to the one-room school where she taught students (and some still living fellow OSU grad ‘country teachers’) with whom she still had had close contact) died at ’93 in 1993. (I was an orphaned kid born to family that fled Alsace back around 1935.) She read to me thru recovery from Polio and we discussed the better part of the Child’s Book of Knowledge encyclopedia as I read my way thru it by 10 yrs old. Laying there for months reading, looking at the rather ornate ceiling then common, and dreaming of ‘flying free’ up there around the ‘chandelier’ led to years of flying as a licensed private pilot and active scuba diver AND a Mensan IQ beyond meaningful measure. (There is a powerful and apparently little known concept there!) I am an unrecovered readaholic. My Viktor Frankel ‘meaning’ has been beagling thru a factoid fogged world in search of knowledge . . . maybe some wisdom.

my router produces 4g and 5g , the latter at 5Ghz . the signal strength from a desk top box is likely far stronger than an external antenna.I have turned off 5g and only turn 4g on when necessary
