Let's See What You See Cellphone Photography Exhibit

The popular Let’s See What You See cellphone photography exhibition is back for its second run and will be opening with a reception Friday, July 13th in the Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. This year, our panel of jurists includes photographers Ivy Vainio, Vern Northrup, and Clint Austin. On the night of the exhibit opening, we will be announcing the 1st through 3rd place winners to receive their cash prize (1st - $200, 2nd - $100, 3rd - $50). The People's Choice Award will be decided on the evening of July 13th and voted on by guests in attendance, and we will also include an award for the Enterprise Community Partners Honorable Mention photo. Over 50 members of the community from all walks of life submitted images to this exhibit!

The premise of this exhibit is to host an event that is engaging to people from all corners of the community and that encourages them to think creatively about a given prompt. Artistically speaking, this exhibit focuses primarily on the participant’s ability to capture a concept or idea, regardless of how “high end” their technology or equipment is. Our call for photo submissions opened in October 2017. This year, our aim is to curate the exhibit around submissions that illustrate the effects of climate change, traditional/cultural approaches towards protecting the environment, or that aim to spread awareness about issues/solutions related to environmental issues. This is part of AICHO’s overarching goal of moving more towards environmental sustainability practices and spreading awareness about how cultural resilience intersects directly with the health of our natural environments.

There is ample parking on the streets surrounding our building and both Lake Superior College parking lots will be open to park for free. The exhibit will remain on display in our galleries until August 3rd.

This activity is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature’s general and arts and cultural heritage funds.
