Gene Luen Yang: We Need Diverse Books

Award-winning graphic novelist and comic book author Gene Luen Yang will speak about the importance of narratives that convey a multitude of cultural experiences. Gene’s books will be available for purchase and signing by the author immediately following his presentation. Gene is the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, a MacArthur Fellow, and the national spokesperson for the Reading Without Walls program. His published work includes American Born Chinese, Boxers & Saints, and The Shadow Hero. He has also written Avatar: The Last Airbender and Superman comics. This free event is part of Reading Without Walls, a year-long community program that challenges participants to read outside their comfort zones.
