Live music at the zoo with two great Duluth bands. The Rhizomes play indie folk-pop tunes with upbeat melodies and humorous takes on the stumbles of human connection. The Trash Cats are an acoustic rock duo playing ‘90s covers and ‘90s-inspired originals. Cover $5.

Ninth annual peace-and-love type music fest 40 minutes south of Duluth, and every year seems a little more magical. Free event but also a fundraiser for music education, so bring cash (or Venmo) to donate. Free tent and RV camping available; parking is limited so please consider carpooling.

KTWH Catch the Wave Music Series

First of the annual outdoor music series, tonight with Sleepy Bones Allison and The Russ Sackett Quartet featuring Doug Lindahl and Matt Mobley. Free frozen treats will also be provided by the Ice Cream Ambassador, Moose Lodge of Two Harbors.

A seven-piece band based out of the Chequamegon Bay in northern Wisconsin playing instrumental groove music with some room to stretch out. Once described as “the furthest thing from classic rock in the North Woods,” their music blends styles from Afro-beat to contemporary jazz. Mud Puppies open.

Duluth’s Landmark Architecture

Glensheen Mansion
Local author and historian Tony Dierckins celebrates Duluth’s historic buildings, districts and landmarks, sharing the stories of successful and failed efforts to preserve these monuments to local architecture. Admission $5 for members, $10 for non-members.

Bill Watson
Thursday, Aug. 20, 5-7 pm
Douglas County Historical Society
Talk by Canadian former hockey player who won the Hobey Baker Award in 1985 while playing for the University of Minnesota Duluth. He went on to play professionally in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Blackhawks. Audience members are invited to share their own stories about local heroes.
