Local North Shore chef releases Nordic-Inspired cookbook rooted in Lake Superior

Chef Chris Recore, Executive Chef on Minnesota’s North Shore, has released his first cookbook, Flavor Under the Aurora: A Nordic-Inspired Kitchen from the North Shore.
The book blends Scandinavian culinary influence with the ingredients and traditions of the Lake Superior region — wild rice, smoked fish, forest berries, wood-fired cooking and seasonal simplicity.
“This book is about cooking where you are,” says Recore. “The North Shore has a distinct identity — rugged, seasonal, deeply connected to the land and water. I wanted to create something that reflects that.”
Written and self-published while working full-time as an Executive Chef, Flavor Under the Aurora combines refined yet approachable recipes with reflections on craft, restraint, and Northern hospitality.
The book is available in both print and eBook formats through major online retailers.
Recore has recently appeared in regional television cooking segments and continues to advocate for building a distinct North Shore culinary identity.
