America, you are being played by a conman

Forrest Johnson

The typical leftist, acccording to “Christian” billionaire and J.D. Vance mentor Peter Thiel.

I have read with interest various letters to the editor attempting to slow down the worry over the actions of the current administration. One, I recall, did agree the president and his minions were acting in bad faith but also tried to explain we hadn’t entered a state of fascism or autocracy.

Don’t exaggerate the threat, the letter writer said, because in a real autocracy protest would be stifled before it had a chance to begin. Keep your eyes open but don’t cry wolf.

I beg to differ. Now is again the time to shout a warning and take matters in hand.

Back in late February one of my daughters sent the kids off to school and found a black Chevy Suburban with government plates sitting in front of her house in the Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth. She texted me about what was going on, took a picture of the vehicle and went out to ask the folks in dark glasses sitting inside who they were. They didn’t respond.

In minutes they were at a job site down the street detaining workers and my daughter felt guilty that she didn’t lay down in front of the vehicle instead of dutifully going off to work.

That small guilt is another of the symptoms of our present situation. It also made the neighbors wonder if the Trump supporter a block away, his yard still awash in MAGA signs, was the snitch, the tattle-tale.
That’s what happens when you live in a society where civil liberties are threatened. That’s what happens when the immigration authorities, some in masks and SWAT gear, urge the population to remain vigilant and alert them of suspicious people who might be undocumented.

Turn in your neighbors if you have to. It’s the American thing to do.

In comic fashion, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently came to Minnesota all dolled-up and sitting behind a pile of confiscated guns and drugs to warn Minnesotans “to support your law enforcement officers.”

Yikes, folks, do you see where this is going?

We haven’t even begun to talk about eviscerating the government or kicking people off Medicaid. We haven’t begun to talk about cuts to child care and education, the cancelling of efforts to address climate change and the environment and the ongoing efforts to shun our international friends and neighbors.

In the meantime, our president is buying crypto currency and making AI-generated videos that show him in a crown and flight gear, flying like Top Gun Maverick over a No Kings rally dumping feces on the protestors.

Now he wants to pop off a nuke.

And don’t forget, next summer you can buy a commemorative $1 Trump coin to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. That branding scheme might be illegal but the emperor may be above that law according to the latest rendition of the Supreme Court.

Hey kids, that’s our president! He has gotten the Department of Justice to indict the former head of the FBI, his former national security adviser and the Attorney General of New York.

Putin plays him like a fiddle and Gazans are under attack again. We have the National Guard patrolling cities and ICE agents rounding up Americans along with the undocumented.

Now let’s go get Venezuela! That’s funny. A guy that tried to steal an election going after a guy who actually did steal an election.

And then there’s tech billionaire Peter Theil, boy vice president JD Vance’s mentor, on a nationwide speaking tour saying the real fear for the country is a woke Anti-Christ coming to take everything away.
And soon. Yes, according to Theil, a self-described Christian, this demon is worse than the devil and he’s a leftist, a real radical lunatic. What a storyline. Theil and the Anti-Christ. That play might be better than The Book Of Mormon if it ever gets to the stage.

Hey, don’t exaggerate the threats, some folks say. Keep your eyes and ears open but don’t cry wolf.

Well, for those of you who may not see so well, I will personally pay for a visit to the eye doctor and pay for glasses if need be. And the same goes for the hearing specialist if you can’t hear the words emanating from the Project 2025 blab-o-sphere so clearly proving we’re all being conned.
