Dumb politicians Series #25
A recipe for economic disaster
Donald Trump claims to be very wealthy and a very successful businessman. But then Trump is a proven liar.
Prior to being elected in 2016 this self-proclaimed “genius” had gone bankrupt six times. He had a long list of failed business ventures including Trump Airlines, Trump Vodka, Trump Steaks, Trump University and a Trump football team. He even bankrupted multiple casinos. How do you lose money conning the stupid people who gamble?
In 2006 (right before the huge mortgage-based economic meltdown) Trump started a mortgage lending company. He said, “It is a great time to start a mortgage company.”
It failed in less than two years. If this guy is going to run government like his businesses, we are in trouble.
Economist Robert Reich says multiple analyses of Trump’s finances indicate he would have made more money investing his multi-million dollar inheritance in a conservative “index” fund and leaving it there. Reich says, “His entire life’s work has been less successful than if he had done nothing!”
So why do so many people “trust” Trump (and Republicans) more than Kamala Harris (and Democrats) to manage the economy?
It certainly isn’t because they have examined the facts. It is because Trump is good at one thing – conning people.
President Trump added $8.2 trillion to the national debt in his first term in office. Every Republican president since Reagan are increased the national debt with tax cuts for the wealthy and war spending.
Trump was just better at bad management than Ronnie or the Shrub.
BTW Economists have documented that the economy has historically done better under Democratic administrations regardless what metrics are used to measure the economy.
Currently Trump’s economic plans have many people worried. NBC News reports that building contractors are concerned that Trump’s deportation policies will create labor shortages and drive up housing costs.
Trump’s proposed tariffs and trade policies with China will create supply chain problems, increase consumer prices and start a trade war that will hurt everyone.
When Trump was president his tariff war with China hurt farm exports and his administration had to create a bailout program for farmers.
Project 2025, Trump’s “playbook” for his next reign of error, proposes many bad policies that will create havoc with the economy. Cutting government oversight of businesses, eliminating OSHA, student loan programs, unions, consumer protection, environmental protection and all the other “free market” crap in this document will cost all of us more money in the long run.
Cleaning up messes (after hurricanes, toxic chemical spills or Wall Street meltdowns) is more expensive than preventing them.
There is no rational reasons for anyone (including the wealthy) to “trust” Trump on the economy or anything else.
The “enemy from within” solution
In numerous interviews and campaign speeches Trump has railed against anyone who opposes him or who uses their legal, constitutional rights to criticize the government. He has said, “I think the bigger problem are the people from within...We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics...These people – they’re so sick, and they’re so evil...”
Modeling fascist, authoritarian dictators of the past, Trump has a solution for unwanted citizen activism (one might call it a “final solution”). He said, “I think it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard or, if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen.”
The man is publicly saying he will use the military against citizens of the United States of America!
This is unprecedented in our history, illegal, unconstitutional, undemocratic and unAmerican.
This election is not just about differences in political philosophy, public policies, presidential “management styles” or even the sharply contrasting honesty and personality traits of the two candidates.
This election is about whether we will have a democracy or a fascist dictatorship in the future.
For all you people who “don’t like either candidate,” or who “just can’t decide,” or are voting for Trump because of inflation, or the economy, or he is “God’s chosen one,” this ought to be a wake up call.
When Trump flushes your freedom down the toilet, “remember you voted based on the price of gas.”
Trump’s local useful idiot
As election day nears, please reflect on Rep. Pete Stauber’s allegiance to the Trump cult. This is a man who cheats at hockey and takes credit for good things others have done. He won’t debate his opponent or answer media questions because then everyone will plainly see that he’s dumber than a hockey puck.
His bizarre and unwavering support for the criminal traitor Trump shows there’s not much going on in that thing sitting on his shoulders.
Stauber chooses party over principle, and for that reason lone, it is time for him to quit sponging on the public dime and be sent into permanent exile from public office. Let him spend the rest of his days reflecting on what a spineless lump he is.
