Stauber’s letter rings hollow

I read with interest the letter from Pete Stauber (July 18 Reader) regarding the recent assasination attempt of Donald Trump. One thing that he doesn’t say is that if the shooter just had a conceled carry pistol he wouldn’t have had that kind of fire power. He does mention the attacks on other republicans. No mention of the the violence at the Capitol with Trump’s attempt to overthrow the election. No mention of the attacks on Nancy Pelosi’s husband or the threats to Anthony Fauci and his family. This all happened as a result of Trump and his constant lies and conspiracy theories. Remember Alex Jones and his denial that the Sandy Hook School shootings never happened? The families that lost their children were getting threats from his believers. All of this from another radical republican.

For Stauber to imply that democrats have to stop “demonizing” Donald Trump is absurd. Trump sold his soul to the devil long ago. And Pete Stauber is so far up Trump’s hind end that he can’t see the daylight. How sad.

Protein anxiety

A phobia that doesn’t get mentioned. but exists nation wide, and perhaps is yet unnamed, is the fear of not getting enough protein.  The up to date nutrition literature  says, “If you’re getting enough calories, you’re getting enough protein.”  More recent studies also show that, especially as we get older, protein from plants is easier on our kidneys than animal protein.  I think we really need medical doctors to be more comprehensively trained in nutrition.

Confident voters will choose the right person

Should twice-impeached presidents or former presidents be immune from criminal prosecution? HE apparently thought he could do anything he wanted without suffering consequences or losing votes (shoot a pedestrian on 5th Avenue in NYC). At least that’s what he told us.
I got a recent fundraising appeal from the Conservative Caucus in Virginia. OF course everyone deserves a fair trial and competent legal counsel, especially if they can’t afford one. Hence the fundraising appeal. How did they get my address?
Speaking to our target audience – the Lake Superior counties of Wisconsin and Minnesota, I’m confident we will not abandon our democracy because of various complaints against old Joe Biden (“It’s the economy, stupid”) but he has invested heavily in our country’s infrastructure. The stock market – an indicator of a nation’s wealth – is up and gas prices are down. I’m not sure he has any control over food prices, especially if we can’t get cheap farm labor from across the border.

When I lived in the area, I used to drive a sales route from Park Falls to Ashland to Superior. Every person I met was a proud “countryman (person)” of good cheer and utmost integrity. I am confident that you voters will uphold our 248-year-old democracy. The other candidate doesn’t care about that at all. Dave Obey did.

Nothing has changed

Political violence is wrong, but the assasination attempt did not change who Donald Trump is. He is a sociopathic criminal and conman who wants to be a dictator. It did not change what MAGA is - a lie-based authoritarian cult. And the far right remains the main source of violent threats, domestic terrorism and hate-crimes. Pointing this out is not incendiary rhetoric. It’s the truth.

Take note

A one-man wrecking ball is hell bent on clawing his way to the throne. His “no holds barred” drive to steer the rudderless ship would bring ruin.
