Dumb politicians series #8

Icky!

Law and order is for losers not God’s chosen great leader
Immediately following Donald Trump’s felony conviction, Republicans began attacking the prosecutor, the judge, the jury and the judicial system of New York. For Republicans law and order only applies to other people.
Republicans are big on enforcing the law against immigrants, people protesting genocide, Black Lives Matter protesters or environmental activists. But when Trump is convicted of fraudulent bookkeeping and paying hush money to a porn star, by a unanimous jury, it is “persecution” and  “political retribution.”

Trump was prosecuted in state court, on state charges, by a local district attorney. Biden and the Department of Justice had nothing to do with it. New York has charged 9,793 people with falsifying business records since 2015.
The New York system was not “rigged.” Trump was just guilty and has a huge persecution complex.

“Screw New York” says MTG
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), demonstrating her total ignorance of how government works, is calling for House Speaker Mike Johnson to cut all federal funding to the State of New York following Trump’s conviction.
Greene said, “The state of New York convicted President Trump on FAKE felony charges... Republicans should not give a penny to New York until they...drop the conviction of Donald John Trump!”
Speaker Johnson has no authority to withhold appropriated monies. Nor would Congress or the courts allow this attempted act of group punishment on the citizens of New York. But her stupid statements show typical Republican contempt for democratic process and respect for real law and order.

Speaking of of vindictive retribution...
A group of eight Republican Senators are vowing revenge for the conviction of Trump. They claim the “White House has made a mockery of the rule of law...” and is engaged in a “project to tear this country apart.” So as “a Senate Republican conference” (of only 8) they are pledging not “vote to confirm this administration’s political and judicial appointees.”

This gang of eight has a solid record of opposing everything Biden and the Democrats support anyway. So nothing has changed. But Republican’s never miss a chance to grandstand and help “tear this country apart.”

Texas Republicans want to secede (again)
The Texas Republican Party is again discussing seceding from the union. In their 2024 party platform they say, “Texas retains the right to secede from the United States, and the Texas Legislature should...to pass a referendum...” to put this to a vote. This secession referendum would be in response to any “federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas.“

This reference to the “powers not delegated” being “reserved to the states...” opens a Texas-sized barn door to any culture war issue or government “overreach” accusation these extremists want to make into grounds for divorce.
Texas is a huge drain on the federal treasury. In 2021 Texas ranked third for receiving the most federal aid ($105 billion). Texas is second in the nation for food stamp recipients (3,241,755). Federal agencies in Texas have about 133,000 civilian employees. The 14 U.S military bases in Texas contributed $114.1 billion to the Texas economy in 2021 providing 622,790 direct and indirect jobs.

If Texas secedes the response should be, “Good riddance. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass.” All the many federal facilities and military bases should be stripped bare as we leave Tex-ass to rot in their own stupidity.

No speaka da English
Please let us not forget Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who many have branded the dumbest person in Congress.
Recall last year when Tuberville blocked nearly 400 military promotions in protest against the Defense Department policy of reimbursing travel costs for service members who have to travel out of state for an abortion.
The Pentagon repeatedly warned that the block harmed military readiness, but Tuberville refused to budge.
The Alabama Republican argued that the real source of damage to military readiness is the department refusing to allow white nationalists to serve. Tuberville seemed not to be able to grasp the notion that white nationalists are, by definition, racist.
When asked about him, a fellow Alabama Republican, speaking anonymously, said: “I do not believe that Tommy Tuberville is a racist at all. I really believe that maybe he doesn’t have an understanding of the English language.”
At the time, some commented that Tuberville wasn't just dumb, he was dangerously derelict in his duty as an elected representative of the people.
