Stauber stupidly spreads Breitbart “News” lies
Congressman Pete Stauber is a bald-faced liar. On his official Facebook page on April 9th, Stauber said, “President Biden is moving to slash Medicare.” Stauber included a link to Breitbart News, a website the Southern Poverty Law Center has said is a platform for white nationalists. What President Biden is proposing is regulating Medicare Advantage plans. Those plans are PRIVATE insurance plans, NOT traditional Medicare, and NOT part of an entitlement program. Medicare Advantage is in fact a stalking horse for the privatization of Medicare. Stauber’s lie is one more example of why MAGA stands for “Moronic A**holes Gaslighting America.

Trump is the death knell for GOP
I recently received a letter from the Republican Party of Minnesota, containing my “2024 Membership Authorization Statement” and an invitation to contribute to the GOP.
As the son of Goldwater Republicans, and as a strong supporter of fiscal conservatism, I recognize the need for a responsible conservative voice in our national politics and in our public discourse.
However, unfortunately, the current Republican Party is not that voice. In fact, the Republican Party is no longer the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan. It is the party of Donald Trump.
As long as the Republican Party – nationally or locally – continues to support Donald Trump, I will be unable to support or respect that party. In fact, none of us should support the current version of the GOP.
Of course, we all can list the reasons that Donald Trump is unfit to lead the nation. The problems include his lack of moral character; his breathtakingly casual relationship with facts; his failure to recognize or embrace the diversity of our nation; his flirtation with tyrants and dictators from North Korea, Russia, Hungary, Turkey and elsewhere; his denial of the legitimacy of the 2020 election; and his transparent contempt for democracy. He invites or encourages his followers to undermine democracy – with violence if legitimate means such as the courts and the ballot box do not produce the results that he wants. He threatens and bullies, but never compromises.
Donald Trump would not be where he is today without the connivance of Republicans who hold their noses and continue to support him despite his manifest flaws. Such reflexive and amoral support for Trump will be the death knell of the current GOP. The nation will need to create a new conservative political voice from the ashes of the MAGA party that is following Donald Trump.

We should be ashamed
The Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, killing several Iranians, was not condemned by U.S. officials nor by mainstream media, despite the obvious impropriety of the unwarranted killings. Israeli leaders clearly were aware that Iran would likely respond militarily to this attack, recognizing that renewed hostilities between Israel and Iran would divert attention away from Israel’s ongoing, devastating, genocidal attacks in Gaza. The Israeli government, with U.S. support and media apathy, continues to wage its horrendous wars.
As citizens of our nation, we should be ashamed of this support and protest it loudly.
