No Body to Murder Jan. 26-Feb. 4 Encore Performing Arts, Cloquet. A short (one hour) but energetic whodunit comedy appropriate for all ages. Bad news in the form of severe thunderstorms and an escaped convict threatens the guests at the Come On Inn of Nova Scotia. By the end of the day, an aerobics instructor is mysteriously murdered during a power outage.

Tom Pahl Friday, Jan. 26, 7 p.m. Cast Iron Bar & Grill. Solo acoustic country/southern rock musician with roots in Texas and the Midwest. His catchy “Broken Bottles” might be the perfect country song: “Ain’t no weed or alcohol that can make me stop thinkin’ of it all ... Broken bottles on the ground, broken bottles all around, I wonder if you’re ever coming home.”

Zaagi'idiwin Tour 2024 Saturday, Jan. 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center. Early shopping for Valentine’s Day in this popup market with art, merchandise, food and live music, sponsored by the American Indian Community Housing Organization. Shoppers can connect with and support Indigenous and BIPOC entrepreneurs.

Sara Thomsen & Rachael Kilgour Saturday, Jan. 27, 7 p.m. Quaker Meeting House, Duluth. A warm January night of songs, stories and curly hair with two revered Twin Ports folksingers.  Thomsen is a weaver of song and community singing who performs at concerts, classrooms, jails, places of prayer and protest lines. Kilgour has been featured at NYC’s Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and the Sundance Film Festival. 

Bill Bash Sunday, Jan. 28, 1-6 p.m. Mr. D’s. Celebration of the life and music of Bill Sandwick, a composer and musician in many local bands. Performances by Tom O'Hara, John Sequin, Don't Panic, Steve Aldrich & His Winterwood Tribute, Centerville All Stars and surprise guests. Free admission, donations to the Bluebird Foundation accepted.

NEMS, Mac Lethal Monday, Jan. 29, 9 p.m. Pizza Lucé. Gorilla Nems is a rapper from Coney Island who rose to fame on MTV2's Fight Klub in 2006 and more recently became a viral TikTok star. Kansas City rapper Mac Lethal released his debut album Men Are from Mars, Pornstars Are from Earth in 2002 and toured with Sage Francis. With local acts Jaze, Mereness and Tr3nquility, hosted by DJ Adub.

Northern Wisconsin musician explores internal struggles of empathy, questions of human character and an enduring search for hope. Free admission, register in advance.
