Blackberries and Covfefe
I can’t wait to see the first Covfefe beer. No idea who will brew the first one, and I can only guess what it will contain. Eye goop? Sleep drool? Belly button lint?
Well, I won’t hold my breath for the first Covfefe beer, so I reach deep into the magic fridge and pull out a…what the? A Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Blackberry Porter.
Where did that come from? I swear that I have no idea how this beer came to reside in the magic fridge, but, no matter, because I’m beery happy to have it. I think it will go perfectly with the 1940s film noir I had cued up.
Hmmmm!
The base is a porter with deep dusky malty, chocolately tones and the blackberry riding bareback on top of that.
Who are these guys who dare to brew search an impudent beer?
A quick online search reveals that this blackberry porter is made by Alltech Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., “a unique stop on the world-famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail.”
In addition to making about a dozen different barrel-aged beers under the Kentucky label, the distillery component of this business makes various American whiskeys, which is very handy if you want to participate in the barrel-aged beer movement.
I search also for the bourbon-barrel element in this beer, and perhaps it is in the duskiness I’m tasting. Or is that muskiness?
Doesn’t matter. I like this beer and the way the tart blackberry finds its way to the forefront, eventually.
As I’m jotting this down, my mind is also trying to piece together where this blackberry porter came from, and suddenly I think there might be more varieties of blackberries and beer awaiting me in the magic fridge.
Stay tuned to see if my spidey senses are covfefe…
