Is your inner Marilyn clamoring to get out?

All the Marilyn Monroes of Duluth and beyond are invited to compete in a look-alike contest held during the Duluth Art Institute’s Annual Fundraiser Gala, at the Duluth Depot, at 5-8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Contest is free and open to all participants dressed in Marilyn attire. (Gala tickets, on sale for $100, include dinner and other activities. Marilyn contestants will be admitted for the contest only, without dinner.)

The Grand prize is a night’s lodging at the Sheraton Duluth Hotel (a $379 value). Costumes will be judged by the audience for likeness to Marilyn Monroe in appearance and/or personality and performance.

The contest is a replacement for a planned drag show unable to appear. It is also the perfect complement to this year’s gala theme of pop art, commented DAI Executive Director Christina Woods.

“A large part of the Duluth Art Institute’s mission is to encourage expression in all of us,” said Woods. “What better way to express ourselves - male and female, young and old - than to share our own interpretation of one of the most iconic personalities in American history?”

Employees and board members of the Duluth Art Institute may participate but are ineligible to win prizes. In the event of a tie, the winner will be chosen randomly.

The decision of the judges is final, and like the entire evening, promises to be all in good fun.

We hope to see you there - and your inner Marilyn.
