Cold Weather Water Line Breaks

The Encounter Skate Park at East First Street and Second Avenue encountered a bit of New Year’s Eve trouble when a water line on the third floor broke, running onto the floors below and out onto the sidewalks. The Duluth Fire Department arrived to locate the leak source. Peter Cpin of Head of Lakes Youth for Christ, which runs the Encounter, said cleanup is underway and he expects the building to reopen soon.. Photo credit: Richard Thomas

The Duluth Fire Department responded to a water leak early New Year’s Day when a sprinkler line at Grandma’s Saloon in Canal Park broke around 1 a.m.  “It’s very fortunate it happened at the end of the evening. It was a cold New Year’s Eve,” said Grandma’s president Brian Daugherty. The sprinkler was fixed  the next day.
