Has Anyone Heard of Couture?

Fashion North

Fall couture fashion week is right around the corner in September, and I’m here to help you get a head start on the game and let you in on current couture looks. This fall’s shows will feature the work of Armani Privé, Atelier Versace, Calvin Klein, and Christian Dior, I’m headed for a simpler approach to couture that average folks like us can pull off – and afford. I’m talking about mass-market couture not haute couture. The basic rule of couture is dressing in one-of-a-kind pieces that are made specifically for you, but let’s face it, none of us have a designer making us one-of-a-kind clothing. That is, unless you’re a uniquely talented individual that can make your own clothing. I’m not one of these individuals, so I leave it to the experts.

For men, it’s key to look youthful. Emphasize it with a light color palette defined with layers of tank tops and shorts. Also, sporting athleticism is in. Putting together a nice jacket with bright shorts and high-top sneakers is suggested. Also, you need to have a bright colored nylon pullover in sporty brands like Nike and Adidas.  Make sure you’re accessories are in a neutral color to calm down the bright colors. Colors to embrace are ink, retro gold, mint, ivory, and olive. Fresh and youthful – keep that in mind.

For women, flowers, stripes, pastels, and bold shapes are ideal for a couture wardrobe.  Buying bottoms with these patterns and shapes as well as skirts and dresses is ideal. Leave the plain pastel colors for your tops and shoes. Also, make sure you have at least one item of clothing with flowers. It’s a feminine touch to any look, and can be paired with any shape and color. Contrasting patters to make an eye-popping outfit is a must. Colors to embrace are red orange, emerald, garnet, khaki, and rust. Flowers and shapes – keep that in mind.

So, if anyone compliments you on your outfit that happens to fits these guidelines, them that it’s couture.
